
One of the
first things anyone seeking joint ventures with any large list owner must
acknowledge is that the list owner probably gets tons of offers every week.
I certainly do.
Some
weeks I get JV offers every day, but that's rare.
What
this means though, is that I can't seriously consider taking on but a small
fraction of the JVs offered.
Most
offers, I am going to dismiss before I even finish the first paragraph. I have
no choice, with hundreds of emails every day and already a full plate of my own
products to promote.
I'm
not actively looking for new products to promote.
What
that means is that the potential JV product must be unique, offer tremendous
value to my customers, and offer me a better than average return.
Let's look at each of those in turn.
Having
been online since 1996 I've marketed a ton of different products and in the
process developed a feel for what will probably sell and what probably won't.
I've
wasted time and money promoting a few "duds," and like many of my
contemporaries, I promised myself not to get caught in that trap again.
I believe in promoting fewer products and devoting the time to them that
they deserve.
There
are lots of affiliate product directories out there, and many Internet marketers
who create products let me take a look at their products before they're even
released. That means that the JV product HAS to be your own.
I
will not JV with someone who buys reprint rights and asks me to help promote
that product.
One
reason is because if I like the product that much, I could just go buy the
reprint rights myself. Another
reason is because the reprint rights aren't offered on many products until the
product stops selling.
