to make a Favorable First Impression With Anyone
First,
I would like to congratulate Chip Tarver on the concept of this book.
I believe it’s a very worthwhile project for a number of reasons.
Why?
Because
most first contacts do not succeed. I
believe that the main reason for failure is the remarkable lack of knowledge
about what is required to make an effective first contact.
To
be fair, I believe that no one is born with the skills to be effective at making
first contacts. It’s a learned
skill.
Like
all things that have to be learned, you have to think about it.
Read.
Study.
And
do a lot of things to make yourself more able to make a positive first
impression.
This
book will be extremely helpful in helping to raise awareness and performance in
this important subject.
Where first impressions begin
As
I looked at the questions Chip sent me to consider as I was preparing this
chapter, the first thing that occurred to me is this. If you want to contact anyone and make a favorable
impression, the process does not start with the person you want to contact.
It
starts with you.
The
reality is that you have to make a favorable impression before you can ever
interest anyone in doing business with you.
Or becoming a possible partner, co-venturer, or joint venturer.
