
One
of the ways that I like to be approached by people I don’t know, to help them
go from a stranger to an associate, is them knowing something about what I do.
They
might have read Conversations With
Millionaires, or maybe they heard one of my radio shows, but they know at
least something about me.
So
when they come to me, there is some personalized aspect and some customized
aspect to their approach, where they’ve done some research.
This
shows me that I’m not just some name out of 500 people they’re sending the
same email to. So, for this person, doing some homework is a great way to go.
Something
that is very important to me is that I like people who approach me who are
looking for more in a relationship than just a one-night stand.
Even
though they have something in their back pocket that they want to do something
with, their approach should first be based on wanting to help me in some way.
When
these people are first looking to give, or to serve, to develop some good will
and develop a relationship with me, then my helping them promote something would
probably happen faster, and potentially even happen to a greater number of
people over a greater amount of time.
Also
what is important when someone approaches me is if they can drop some names of
people I know who have endorsed them, or people they’ve done business with.
When this person can drop some names of people I attach a great value to,
it helps as well.
People’s
names, real testimonials, names of people they’ve worked with are all
important.
The
greatest relationships that I’ve established with people I didn’t previously
know have all been people who wanted to establish a real relationship – not
just a one-night stand.
