
When people want to approach me, there are
two things to consider, because people
make mistakes when approaching me or anyone else to do JVs.
Number one is
they send a letter that is much too detailed, much too long, and does not get to
the point.
Number
two, the letter does not contain the advantages and benefits to me.
It’s simply from their perspective because they want something from me.
They
want my time for free.
Why
should I give them my time for free?
I
personally and honestly do not do many JVs because I don’t see any compelling
benefit to me. However, if there is
some compelling benefit to me, then it’s something I might consider.
If
you’re dealing with somebody who is really busy, you might consider
approaching them by mailing something professional- looking in the mail.
And
don’t just mail it once.
You
probably need a sequence of three or four mailings.
That
sounds like too much work for most people so most people never do it.
The
third thing I have to add is that if you really want to learn how to approach
successful people, read the book Networking With The Affluent by Thomas
Stanley.
This
book will really teach you the way that pros do it.
The
essence of his book is that you don’t start out asking anything from anyone
– first you do something for them. He
shows seven different ways in the book, such as helping them raise funds, or
helping them promote their business, or even helping them with their family.
